Join Our Team as a Nursing Assistant with the Veteran Affairs Greater Los Angeles Health Care System

We are seeking a dedicated Nursing Assistant to join our team and provide essential care to veterans at multiple VA facilities across the Greater Los Angeles area. In this vital role, you'll work alongside a team of healthcare professionals to ensure the well-being of our veterans while advancing your career in the healthcare field.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Nursing Assistant , your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborative Care : Work as an integral member of the nursing team, providing routine nursing care and personal services to patients across various wards, ensuring compassionate and high-quality care.
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) : Assist veterans with daily activities such as feeding, bathing, grooming, lifting, turning, and offering oral, nail, and hair hygiene care.
  • Patient Documentation : Accurately document patient care activities in clinical records, ensuring detailed and up-to-date reports.
  • Observation & Reporting : Monitor patients' physical and emotional conditions and provide timely updates to the clinical team to ensure the best possible care.
  • Diagnostic Support : Take vital signs, perform neurological checks, collect specimens, and prepare patients for tests, exams, treatments, and surgeries.
  • Treatment Procedures : Administer treatments such as changing dressings, providing colostomy and tracheotomy care, and managing patients under isolation or continuous observation.
  • Patient Safety : Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, ensuring the comfort and safety of patients.
  • Emergency Response : Recognize emergency situations (e.g., cardiopulmonary arrest, seizures) and respond promptly and appropriately.
  • Patient Transport : Accompany patients on diagnostic or therapeutic trips, making decisions within the CNA scope.
  • Crisis Management : Provide emergency measures to manage disruptive or violent behavior when necessary.
  • Support to RNs and LVNs : Assist Registered Nurses and Licensed Vocational Nurses in the delivery of patient care, following established protocols.
  • Patient Rights & Dignity : Respect patient privacy and dignity, always advocating for the rights of the individuals in your care.
  • Professional Conduct : Demonstrate consistent professionalism, courtesy, and helpfulness in all interactions with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education : High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Certification : Completion of an accredited CNA program in California or equivalent. Current CNA certification by the California Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Experience : Minimum of 1 year of experience in acute or long-term care settings.
  • Certification : Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Physical Requirements : Ability to stand, walk, lift, and bend for extended periods, and lift up to 40 lbs. (carry up to 10 ft).
  • Language Skills : Proficiency in English (understanding, speaking, reading, and writing).
  • Emergency Response : Ability to recognize and respond promptly to emergency patient care situations.
  • Flexibility : Availability to work various shifts, Monday through Sunday.
  • Work Authorization : Authorization to work in the US without sponsorship.
