About Arlington Charities

​In 1978, members of the Arlington Ministerial Alliance decided that Arlington’s food insecurity issues needed to be addressed. Initially, volunteers collected food and distributed it out of car trunks. However, the demand was overwhelming. As a result, Arlington Charities was organized as a nonprofit in 1979. ​Arlington Charities is one of the oldest social service organizations in the city, and the city’s largest provider of supplemental food for people in need. ​Arlington Charities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping to stabilize families, individuals, and the homeless in Arlington.U

nder the general direction of the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director serves as the driving force behind Arlington Charities' mission, providing visionary leadership and strategic direction to combat food insecurity and address its underlying causes. The CEO is crucial in expanding development efforts, strengthening community involvement, and ensuring long-term financial sustainability. This leader will engage donors, partners, and stakeholders to enhance fundraising efforts, build awareness, and drive meaningful change in the community.T

he CEO fosters strong relationships with the Board, staff, volunteers, and external partners to create and implement effective strategies. This position requires a highly visible leader deeply committed to community engagement and advocacy, ensuring that Arlington Charities remains a trusted resource for those in need.K

ey Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Community Engagement:D

  • evelop and implement a comprehensive strategy to address food insecurity, focusing on immediate relief and long-term solutions.A
  • ctively engage with community leaders, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations to build partnerships and strengthen Arlington Charities' impact.S
  • erve as a public advocate, increasing awareness of food insecurity issues and the organization’s role in addressing them.E
  • nsure that the organization’s mission, vision, and values align with the community's evolving needs.

Development & Fundraising:W

  • orking with the Development Manager, spearhead fundraising efforts, cultivating relationships with donors, foundations, corporate sponsors, and government agencies.D
  • evelop and execute a diversified development strategy, including major gifts, grants, sponsorships, and special events.S
  • trengthen donor engagement through personalized outreach and ongoing stewardship.O
  • versee the development team to enhance fundraising initiatives and ensure donor retention.

Program Development & Management:O

  • versee the design, implementation, and evaluation of food assistance programs, distribution initiatives, and community outreach efforts.E
  • nsure that all programs effectively address community needs and align with the organization’s strategic objectives.C
  • ontinuously assess and improve program effectiveness through impact measurement and reporting.

Advocacy & Public Relations:A

  • ct as the primary spokesperson, representing Arlington Charities to government officials, media, and community stakeholders.B
  • uild and maintain relationships with policymakers and advocacy groups to influence food security initiatives.D
  • evelop communication strategies to raise public awareness and position the organization as a leader in food assistance.

Board Relations & Organizational Leadership:W

  • ork closely with the Board of Directors, providing regular updates and strategic insights.S
  • upport Board recruitment, development, and governance efforts to ensure strong organizational leadership.L
  • ead and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven culture.O
  • versee the Development Team to maximize community engagement and fundraising success.

Financial & Operational Oversight:D

  • evelop and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and transparency.O
  • versee financial planning, reporting, and compliance with nonprofit regulations.I
  • dentify new revenue opportunities to support program growth and operational excellence.

Qualifications & Skills:B

  • achelor’s degree in a relevant field (Master’s degree preferred).P
  • roven leadership experience in nonprofit management, development, and community engagement.S
  • trong strategic and critical thinking skills to evaluate and implement effective solutions.E
  • xperience in donor relations, major gift solicitation, and fundraising campaign execution.D
  • emonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and corporate partners.E
  • xcellent communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to serve as an ambassador for the organization.S
  • trong financial management skills, including budgeting and financial reporting.C
