Diesel Mechanic

We are seeking skilled and motivated Diesel Mechanics to join our growing team in Madison, Illinois. Location: 1001 College Street, Madison, Illinois

Salary: $25 - $32 per hour (dependent on experience)

Job Description:

As a Locomotive Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and inspection of our fleet of diesel locomotives. Your primary focus will be ensuring the safe and efficient operation of these critical assets through proactive maintenance, troubleshooting, and timely repairs. You will work independently and as part of a team to diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventative maintenance tasks, and execute necessary repairs in accordance with industry standards and company procedures.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Demonstrated mechanical experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, preferably with a focus on railway equipment.
  • Experience working with industrial equipment, highway tractors, or Caterpillar equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engine systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Familiarity with locomotive systems and components.
  • Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
  • Formal vocational training or certifications in diesel mechanics.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
