Electrical Safety Officer (Subject Matter Expert – SME 2)

Compa Industries is searching for qualified candidates for an Electrical Safety Officer (SME) position at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM.

Salary: $92 - $100/HR

Location: Los Alamos, New Mexico (ON-SITE)

Citizenship: US citizenship required

Work Schedule: 4-10s

Clearance: Q clearance required (Preferred at time of hire; must be able to obtain and maintain)

🛑 IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Due to the technical complexity and security sensitivity of this role, only candidates with direct, hands-on electrical safety experience in DOE, NNSA, or nuclear Category II/III environments will be considered.

This position supports time-critical mission operations and requires candidates who can operate independently without ramp-up training.

Impact

This position is vital in maintaining the highest safety standards at LANL's TA-55 and TA-50 facilities. The SME will play a pivotal role in supporting mission-critical national security projects by overseeing and enhancing the Electrical Safety Program. As a Subject Matter Expert, your insights and leadership will directly impact operational safety and regulatory compliance in high-risk environments.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Administer and manage the LANL Electrical Safety Program.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all electrical safety-related inquiries.
  • Provide advanced electrical safety support to construction projects, collaborating with project managers, planners, and field professionals.
  • Conduct electrical incident investigations, identify root causes, and develop corrective actions.
  • Perform electrical hazard inspections in various workplace conditions.
  • Review Integrated Work Documents (IWDs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Develop and refine policies, procedures, and design standards related to electrical safety.
  • Support engineers and scientists in solving complex technical issues.
  • Evaluate equipment and services for compliance with safety standards.
  • Calculate electrical severity scores for incident assessments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant field experience (or equivalent combination).
  • Demonstrated experience working at a DOE/Category II Nuclear Facility .
  • Advanced understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA, IEEE standards, and electrical safety protocols.
  • Ability to pass Radiological Worker II training and work in radiation areas.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Physical ability to navigate complex field environments.

Desired Skills

  • Prior experience working at a DOE Category II Nuclear Facility.
  • Direct experience supporting electrical safety in large-scale construction environments.
  • Previous work involving TA-55 and TA-50 or similar high-security installations.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • At least 7 years of field experience, preferably in a DOE or high-security setting.
