Job Description

Lab Technician Responsibilities:

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions for safe laboratory practices, waste handling, and quality tests.
  • Practice hazard recognition in daily work activities, seeking to improve and promote safety, housekeeping, environmental, and efficiency in the work area.
  • Ensure all test protocols comply with the test procedure.
  • Articulate and communicate with peers, chemists, managers, and business partners; provide timely status updates; Work with business partners on special requests, including an area chemist when necessary; Follow up on business partner questions or concerns.
  • Must be able to identify, troubleshoot, and work closely with peers, chemists, and business partners to resolve issues or problems.
  • Recognize the validity of test data; Screen data to ensure accuracy prior to uploading results; Notify the manager regarding non-conformance and work to identify root causes of inconsistent test data.
  • Enter and upload test data into Excel and/or internal software.
  • Facilitate sample flow between the work area and other areas in the department.
  • Recognize priority conflicts of testing; prioritize and communicate test schedules to requestors.
  • Strong ability to manage time. Strong ability to maintain organization.

Lab Technician Requirements:

  • BA/BS in a science-related field, Chemistry preferred.
  • Minimum two-year lab experience in an industry setting.
  • Experience with ISO 17025 laboratory accreditation, a plus.
  • Computer skills (MS Office). Position also requires use of various internal Mainframe applications: Scheduler/Inventory, Measurements, Information Warehouse, and others.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Ability to work independently (predominantly – once training is complete).
  • The ability to function in a team environment by working well with others.
  • Required: Visual acuity and no color blindness.
