A postdoctoral researcher position in growth and fabrication of devices and materials for silicon photonics is available at Texas State University. This position will drive several multidisciplinary, 1-2 year projects related to direct bandgap GeC and GeCSn alloys for lasers on silicon chips. Experience in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) is highly desirable; chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of crystalline semiconductors may be acceptable if the applicant also did the epi system maintenance themselves. Photonic/electronic device fabrication experience is also desirable, as is device design and modeling.
Candidates should be self-motivated, creative, entrepreneurial (actively finding solutions when problems arise), good communicators, and good mentors to graduate and undergraduate students. The candidate should hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, such as Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Materials Science or Engineering. The ideal candidate will have both a solid conceptual understanding and practical experience in crystalline semiconductor epitaxy and ultrahigh vacuum maintenance & operations. Photonic device design, fabrication, and characterization are a plus. A strong publication record and demonstrated ability to work both in teams and independently are also requirements.
With interests and expertise spanning from materials design and applied physics to deliverable commercial products, the Wistey Group offers leadership and mentoring for smart individuals looking to expand their knowledge base and launch their careers. Current funding includes salary support, health insurance, and fringe benefits.
Interested candidates should email an application cover letter describing background and interests, as well as a CV including publication list and contact information for 3+ references including current supervisor to Mark Wistey ([email protected]). Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. The position is available immediately, with extensions possible based on mutual interest. Start dates can be negotiated. Salary is negotiable depending on individual's background and skills. Questions about the projects or open position are always welcome at any time.
Texas State University is located in San Marcos, Texas, in the "Semiconductor/Medical Corridor" connecting Austin and San Antonio. TXST is an equal opportunity employer.
Requirements
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science/Engineering, or a related field by the time of appointment.
Solid conceptual understanding as well as experience in crystalline semiconductor growth by MBE or MOCVD, and ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) epitaxy system maintenance and operations.
Strong mentoring and communication skills in English.
