Job Description

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm

Salary: $229,528 annually

Overview:

The Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC) seeks a licensed, board-certified (or board-eligible) psychiatrist to join our Wellness and Recovery Services Team. Our clinic serves adults receiving services through the Department of Mental Health who are living with severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder, often complicated by trauma, poverty, and co-occurring medical, substance use conditions and criminal justice involvement.

This position is ideal for a psychiatrist committed to long-term, relationship-based care and to advancing recovery-oriented, evidence-based services. The role combines direct clinical care with leadership in developing and shaping our wellness programming — integrating psychopharmacologic treatment, psychosocial interventions, and measurement-based care to promote recovery, resilience, and quality of life. In addition, the position will involve supervision/teaching. An academic appointment with the Harvard Medical School is possible for the appropriate candidate. Garage parking in the Longwood Medical Area is available at no cost.

Responsibilities:

Psychiatric Care & Recovery Focus

  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management for individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders, bipolar disorder, and related conditions.
  • Manage complex psychopharmacology, including clozapine and long acting injectables, with careful monitoring for efficacy, adherence, and side effects.
  • Foster hope, empower patient autonomy, actively listen and respect patient perspectives, promote self-management, and facilitate social connectedness
  • Embed recovery goals and shared decision-making into all aspects of treatment planning.

Wellness & Recovery Program Development

  • Collaborate with peers, nursing, social work, and case management to design and implement evidence-based group and individual interventions
  • Use patient-reported outcomes, quality-of-life measures, and other data to guide continuous improvement.

Interdisciplinary Leadership

  • Serve as psychiatric consultant and supervisor to a multidisciplinary team.
  • Promote integration with co-located primary care and substance use services.

Patient & Community Engagement

  • Support psychoeducation and family involvement to strengthen engagement and adherence.
  • Contribute to community partnerships that promote social inclusion, vocational recovery, and meaningful roles in society.

Qualifications:

  • Current Medical license in Massachusetts and a minimum of board eligibility in Psychiatry in the state of Massachusetts required. Applications from Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners will be accepted as well.
  • Current Federal DEA and State Controlled Substances Certificates required.
  • Current malpractice insurance required. Malpractice insurance plans available through Vinfen.
  • Expertise in treating schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and bipolar disorder.
  • Proven ability to foster hope, empower autonomy, and promote recovery-oriented care.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, culturally responsive, person-centered approaches.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and quality improvement preferred.
  • All candidates must be able to successfully pass a CORI, reference, multi-state background, education and credentialing check.
