Position Title: Senior Energy Engineer

Employment Status: Full Time

Location: Remote, hybrid, Connecticut (WFH with site visits & client meetings)

About Waypoint: Waypoint is a commercial energy efficiency company that delivers utility and public services for the commercial real estate sector. Waypoint also delivers other demand-side management programs including decarbonization, electrification, and electric vehicle adoption. Waypoint’s core mission is to significantly decrease energy usage within the commercial building sector through advanced energy analytics and innovative market deployment programs. Our multidisciplinary team of technical experts and commercial real estate professionals develops and implements innovative market engagement strategies with demonstrated cost savings.

Position Summary: We are seeking a skilled and self-motivated Senior Energy Efficiency Engineer to support utility-sponsored energy efficiency and research programs. In this role, you will lead independent site visits across a range of commercial and industrial facilities, identifying energy-saving opportunities and performing engineering calculations to support custom and prescriptive incentive programs. You’ll collaborate closely with utility clients, program implementers, and cross-functional teams to analyze data, develop technical documentation, and contribute to pilot program design and evaluation. This is a hands-on, technically focused role ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in both field and analytical settings and is passionate about driving decarbonization through real-world impact. Please note that you must be in Connecticut and willing to travel to site visits to be eligible for this role.

Responsibilities:

· Lead and conduct on-site energy assessments for commercial and industrial facilities to identify and quantify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements

· Develop and review energy savings calculations for prescriptive and custom measures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to utility TRMs and program guidelines

· Support design and implementation of utility research pilots, including identifying evaluation metrics, tracking performance, and interpreting results

· Collaborate with program implementers, utility clients, and trade allies to provide technical guidance and ensure alignment with program goals

· Prepare high-quality technical reports, customer-facing documentation, and internal memos summarizing energy savings potential, project economics, and recommended next steps

· Review and validate customer-submitted project data and engineering documentation for incentive eligibility

· Contribute to development of measure characterization studies, white papers, and market research efforts

· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of evolving technologies, building systems, and industry best practices related to energy efficiency and decarbonization

· Participate in stakeholder meetings, workshops, and trainings to communicate findings and support continuous improvement of program delivery

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering (or related field)

· Minimum 6–8 years of experience in energy efficiency program implementation, engineering analysis, or related utility consulting work

· Proficient in conducting independent site visits for commercial and industrial facilities, including HVAC, lighting, envelope, and process assessments

· Strong experience in calculating energy savings for prescriptive and custom energy efficiency measures using engineering models, spreadsheets, and/or simulation tools (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus, or similar)

· Familiarity with utility Technical Reference Manuals (TRMs), ASHRAE guidelines, and industry-standard savings methodologies

· Ability to interpret utility usage data and perform end-use disaggregation or baseline modeling

· Experience with M&V (Measurement and Verification) approaches and research-based pilot program evaluation

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable insights for both internal teams and external stakeholders

· Skilled at collaborating with cross-functional teams including program managers, outreach staff, and third-party evaluators

· Demonstrated project management ability, with experience leading tasks or initiatives independently under tight timelines

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other engineering or data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, or Energy modeling software) a plus

· Professional Engineer (PE) license or CEM (Certified Energy Manager) credential preferred

· Ability to self-motivate and work successfully in a remote environment

Compensation: The anticipated salary for this position is $120,000 annually. Final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Inquiries: If you believe you are well qualified for this role, please send a resume to: [email protected]
