Job Description

We are currently seeking Senior Product Designer to join our team to design and develop our merchandise strategy for our New Balance global headwear line!

Senior Product Designers are responsible to research, concept, present, and instruct sample development for headwear. It is a position where an appetite for continued learning is essential. It is a position which requires great competency in translating an idea into a visual concept. The position is central in building design solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A deep and versatile portfolio of sports performance wear, headwear in particular.
  • A great eye for design and drive to maintain a high quality of work.
  • A drive to get their work out into the hands of consumers.
  • Experience growing and maintaining a category line of business.
  • Brand experience and knowing how to show up for the Brand at all times.
  • Experience in managing team schedule and delegating tasks.
  • 3+ experience working in the headwear category.
  • 3+ experience working in the design and product development of headwear.
  • Experience in a product lifecycle management software (PLM)
  • Experience leading projects through a calendar/project management software
  • Designed and developed quality samples of product through a supplier or even crafted them on their own. Professionally or personally. We want to see your best work whether professional or amateur!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO

  • A candidate with 5 or more years’ experience in the field of design
  • Conducts market/trend research to inform design for brand right/consumer right product.
  • Understands NB consumer and Brand style guidelines
  • Create detailed Tech Packs (specifications and production guidelines) for all style colors ensuring all assets and logos are executed accurately.
  • Future thinking for innovation and solving problems for athletes
  • Executes against seasonal design brief to meet consumer need for style, price, and distribution
  • Participates in sample review at each sample gate
  • Primarily communicates through development to factories and overseas teams
  • Secondary liaison with NB Licensing Team, secondary communicator w/ Shanghai Office, factory partners, and India team
  • Maintain a comprehensive asset library to organize and manage all digital artwork, including CAD files, fabric references and other asset types. Regularly updating for consistency and accuracy across all assets.
  • Creates/builds and manages the line plan (excel) oversees data upload into Centric
  • Creating style numbers, color codes
  • Keep an active pulse of the market. Shop the assortment each online and in stores. Document the assortments found with detailed research of active customers, potential customers, product counts, brands, suppliers, countries of origin, competitors, materials, product features, and prices. Keep pulse of consumer reviews and where design solutions are needed.
  • Lead in research and set category trends each season. Bring forward new opportunities.
  • Define goals & best case scenarios with design management, peers, clients, customers, and manufacturing partners.
  • Ideate and interpret best case ideas into product concepts. Partner with design management, peers, clients, customers, and manufacturing partners to challenge and proof product concepts. Build on those ideas and keep driving forward.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

  • Bachelor’s degree

BUSINESS HOURS

Hours of operation: Monday-Friday: 8:30am – 5:30pm, and as needed to meet business goals and objectives. Flexible and able to work the hours needed to get the job done.
