Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020 beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. The Role
Houston Classical is seeking a dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to support our mission of providing all scholars, including those with diverse learning needs, with a rigorous, high-quality education. In this role, you will work closely with Special Education teachers and general education staff to provide targeted academic and behavioral support to students with disabilities. You’ll play an integral part in creating a learning environment where all scholars feel seen, supported, and set up for success.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities - Support Special Education teachers in delivering individualized instruction aligned with students’ IEP goals.
- Provide one-on-one or small group academic support, both inside and outside the general education classroom.
- Implement behavior intervention plans under the guidance of Special Education staff.
- Assist in collecting and tracking student progress data, ensuring documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
- Help facilitate accommodations and modifications in the classroom to ensure full access to the curriculum.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusive practices and maintain a positive learning environment.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families, helping keep them informed about student progress and needs.
- Assist with clerical duties such as organizing student materials, copying instructional resources, and preparing modified assignments.
- Supervise and support students during transitions, breakfast, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
- Provide coverage for Special Education teachers when needed to ensure continuity of services.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- College degree preferred
- Passion for supporting students with disabilities and a belief in their potential to thrive in a rigorous academic environment.
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible while working in a fast-paced, student-centered setting.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, families, and team members.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive student information.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.
