Role Overview

The Sr. Building Performance & Decarbonization Consultant will provide expert consultation on building performance standards and regulatory compliance, focusing on energy efficiency and decarbonization in key North American markets. This role is responsible for leading client engagements, delivering analyses and strategic recommendations, and supporting clients through the evolving regulatory landscape. This role will use a combination of tools, including our proprietary Touchstone IQ for Buildings software, to conduct research and analysis, evaluate risk and options, and present content.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy, sustainability, environmental sciences or related discipline
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Deep technical understanding of energy efficiency within the built environment
  • Enterprise-level client leadership and project management experience
  • Value and demonstrate curiosity, self-motivation, innovation, and a high degree of professionalism

Our preferred candidate would have:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Experience providing building performance standards consultation
  • Experience with relevant industry tools including ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager

Key Responsibilities

Consultation and Client Leadership

  • Provide expert consultation on building performance standards (e.g., Denver’s BPP, New York City’s Local Law 97, Boston’s BERDO) and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead project management for enterprise-level accounts, ensuring successful delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Develop and deliver presentations, lead client calls, and foster strong, long-term customer relationships.
  • Represent Touchstone IQ to external clients, delivering exceptional service and maintaining successful partnerships.

Analysis and Strategy Development

  • Conduct ROI, cost/benefit, and risk analyses to evaluate building efficiency and decarbonization pathway options.
  • Perform scenario planning for flexibility measures and performance optimization strategies.
  • Analyze and interpret regulations to ensure clients meet evolving compliance requirements.
  • Assess client portfolios for compliance with current and emerging building performance standards using Touchstone IQ for Buildings and other tools.
  • Analyze building energy performance data to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement relative to BPS thresholds.
  • Provide actionable recommendations for efficiency opportunities and alternate compliance options.
  • Develop greenhouse gas inventories and emissions reduction strategies aligned with building performance standards, net zero, and electrification targets.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with in-house engineers, energy & sustainability specialists, and policy managers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Communicate complex ideas crisply and compellingly through the Touchstone IQ for Buildings platform and written reports and presentations using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Support the internal team with additional regulatory compliance needs, including energy benchmarking, data verification, and certifications, during peak compliance periods or as needed.
  • Guide clients through the regulatory reporting and documentation process for BPS compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and proactively inform and present to clients about changes that may impact their compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to develop resources, templates, and training materials to support BPS compliance for clients.

Compensation

Compensation is dependent on experience and qualifications with a base salary starting at $70,000. Additional benefits include healthcare and dental insurance, parental leave, a Denver RTD EcoPass, a hybrid work schedule, paid holidays, vacation and sick days, and a matching 401K package. A relocation stipend may be available for this role.
