Job Description

The Story School is hiring seasonal overnight summer camp counselors for our two eduLARP camps:

Camp F.A.B.L.E. & Camp Grimoire from June 18th - August 9th

Camp Counselor/Hero Leader: Role-MODELS not Role-Players (18+)

What Does a Hero Leader Do?

  • Counselors are in charge of leading groups of campers throughout their experiences and activities. Responsibilities include getting campers ready for the day, leading game missions out into the world, reflecting on experiences with campers, meal monitoring, and engaging with campers out of game during down moments. Hero Leaders are expected to have an in-game character that can function as a guide to the heroes and can be provided for you.

Duties List

  • Helps campers stay on schedule for routines and guides during adventure time
  • Entertains, engages, and supports up to 12 campers in an adventuring party
  • Supports running STEAM modules for their group
  • Supports other hero leaders and logistics/backstage team
  • Helps make the world immersive by playing characters/monsters as needed
  • Engages in behavior management, dorm duties, and transitioning between activities
  • Role-models good conduct for campers and co-counselors
  • For camp counselors (age 20+): more focus on leading campers, guiding program encounters, and dorm counselor duties
  • For lead counselors (age 21+): more focus on being leader among your peers and providing support to either our counselor team, logistics team, or admin team based on experience

What Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Great communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative environment (after all you are living with co-workers)
  • Experience with child-care or informal education

What Does the Position Pay?

  • Counselors, $410 - $450 / week (based on experience) for up to eight weeks plus room and board
  • For lead counselors, $450 - $500 / week (based on role and experience) for eight weeks plus room and board
