Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Supports the underwriting team in collecting, verifying, and analyzing documentation for the commercial loan portfolio. Ensures loan files are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal policies and regulatory guidelines. Offers individuals the opportunity to apply basic loan analysis skills to relationship reviews and small commercial loan requests. Additionally, the role is crucial in ensuring that the credit union maintain a healthy and well-documented commercial loan portfolio. The expectation is that the individual delivers professional and excellent service to internal and external members, clients, and teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  1. Underwriting support
    1. Accurately evaluate new business loan requests for the borrower’s creditworthiness, repayment ability, and overall relationship risk with the credit union.
    2. Prepare detailed credit memos that include all analysis needed for the approving officer or business loan committee to make an informed lending decision.
    3. Coordinate with the commercial credit analyst team to efficiently manage the business and Everence Association loan pipeline.
    4. Coordinate with Business Development Officers (BDOs) to ensure that complete and accurate borrower files are maintained, including all necessary financial and due diligence information.
    5. Assist with ordering and reviewing business loan due diligence.
  2. Loan reviews and borrower financials tracking
    1. Accurately evaluate current commercial loan relationships for the borrowers’ creditworthiness, repayment ability, and overall relationship risk with the credit union.
    2. Prepare comprehensive review memos that evaluate borrowers’ current relationship performance and collateral stability.
    3. Recommend any modifications to relationship and loan risk ratings and document results.
    4. Track and oversee the borrower review and financial collection tracking pipelines.
    5. Coordinate with BDOs and the loan servicing team to send borrower financial tracking letters.
  1. Appraisal pipeline oversight 
    1. Order all appraisals and commercial evaluations as requested by underwriting and BDO staff.
    2. Follow up with appraisers and the third-party appraisal management company to ensure deadlines are met and questions are addressed.
    3. Coordinate construction draw inspections and disbursements.
  2. Take responsibility for establishing and maintaining strong, professional business relationships, along with effective coordination and communication with both internal teams and external members or clients. 
  3. Responsible for related duties as required or assigned 
    1. Maintain a clean, secure, and well-kept work area.
    2. Attend all required team meetings and activities.
    3. Keep all sensitive and private information confidential.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work or educational experience preferred.

Experience

  1. Two years of bank or credit union experience required
  2. Two years of experience in loan servicing and/or underwriting preferred

  3. Thorough understanding of lending and deposit programs, policies, procedures, and related legal requirements
  4. Solid math skills and strong technology/computer skills
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook, etc.)

  7. Ability to analyze accounts and loan requests
  8. Attention to detail; well organized
  9. Ability to assist others and work as part of a team

  15. Some lifting of files or boxes may be required (up to 25 lbs)
